Beauty for all ages
With all the lockdowns over the past few years, I have definitely dropped my standards on hair and makeup. What was the point when you wear a mask to go out or could simply turn on ‘touch up’ on the Zoom meeting. Though in person real life is back (thank goodness) so its time to improve the personal grooming. I went looking for some products to help. And you might even find some good gift ideas here for an upcoming birthday.
Hair
While some might be able to visit the hairdressers for a blow wave weekly, it may be more economical to dry your own. How to do that without the arm strain of juggling a brush and hair dryer? Could a Hot Air Brush help with only one thing to hold? A couple of options are below. You can hit the link to take a closer look at the product, or maybe have a chat to the staff at your local hair product shop which are found in most shopping centres.
BondiBoost Blowout Brush Pro Hair Dryer & Hair Brush ($99.99 AUD) weighs 830 grams
AUSELECT Hot Air Brush, Hair Dryer Blowout Brush, 4IN1 One Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer Hot Hair Dryer Brush ($37 AUD) weighs 750 grams and is a cheaper option to purchase on Amazon.
When you look at the weight of a hairdryer, I have to think it’s not so easy to hold nearly 1kg up over your head for 10-15minutes. It is expensive at $399, though the IQ Gama Professional IQ Perfetto Hair Dryer weighs in at only 294 grams. Much lighter! Or you could try a travel hairdryer which is smaller, like Remington Jet Setter Hair Dryer which only weighs 440 grams and costs around $20.
Could a hair dryer stand be the solution?
It seems it is men who don’t dry hair are inventing most of these – I don’t think there is anyway my hair drying which weighs nearly 1kg would hold up if suction cupped to the mirror or on a light weight stand. It is going to need a very strong stand or be screwed to the wall. I have seen a few DIY hacks where they strap to hairdryer to a wall TV bracket, but there has to be other options, I’m on the hunt! You would also need to make sure its installed on a stud in your wall so you don’t end up with it damaging your plaster.
Nails
A trip to the nail salon with friends can be a great day out, though it is very easy to DIY at home.
For a little help, a holder for your nail polish could be the answer. Just like the hairdryer stand it needs to be weighty enough to not tumble over. Made for teens so the colours are bright and sparkly you could try the Tweexy Hinge untippable nail polish holder which might be the best option for those with shaky hands or the wearable nail polish holder ring.
And if you find yourself too shaky, I’m sure if you pull these tools out when your grand daughter visits, she might just help you out.
Do remember to be careful with cutting your nails so as not to snip yourself, particularly if you have diabetes.
Makeup and Mirrors
Eye sight fading a little, and you can’t wear glasses while applying makeup. Or trying to shave and not miss a spot.
Try a magnified mirror. These can magnify from 3x to 20x. Some also come with extra lights around the edge.
If you are upgrading your bathroom you may like to install a magnifying swivel mirror to the wall, you can find options at your local bathroom supply shop or department stores like Myer. These can range in price from $100 to over $400.
I see Harvey Norman currently have an online only option for $20 which is a good starting point for one to place on your table or bench. And Amazon has some well priced options too which you could check out here.
Unfortunately in Australia we don’t have access to accessible makeup products that are available in American. So I’m on a little mission to get makeup products here that are easier to hold and use so you can do your makeup with confidence. I’ll give you an update when I do!
Have you found any products that have really helped you out? Let me know in the comments section, i’d love to know.
